Welcoming the Shadow Season

We hear this term a lot in the autumn- “shadow season” but what does it mean really and how can we apply it to our daily and spiritual life? Autumn is the Shadow season, because it is between the light season (Summer) and the dark season (Winter). It is neither, yet both. During the Autumn the earth is both alive and dead. This ‘tween time is especially powerful as we can tap into the best of both worlds and apply as needed. In this week’s blog I am going to touch on a few lessons the Shadow Season can teach us and in subsequent weeks will be talking more about the shadow self.

Lesson 1: Let Go. During the Autumn nature lets go of it all. She worked hard all Spring to bring forth the leaves on the trees, flowers, grass, bushes and all the food we could eat. And just like that, without a second thought she knows that time is done and now it’s time to let all her creations go. We can take a lesson from her and let go of the things that are holding us back. Enjoy the things that have reached completion and be willing to let the dying go- only then will there be room for new beginnings.

Lesson 2: Let Your Beauty Shine. Autumn is beautiful. The season of death is beautiful. Mother Nature gives us the most gorgeous show of colors of the YEAR while she is in decline. Allow yourself to be beautiful too. Allow yourself to show your colors and be inspired. Take the time to pamper yourself and make your beauty routine spiritual too. Check out our Enchanted Skincare, Spiritual bath and body and Magickal Perfumes.

Lesson 3: Autumn is all about abundance. There is usually a plethora of food in the autumn for us as well as the animals living in the wild. But what we don’t often take into consideration is that most of those animals are storing away food to prepare for the harshness of winter when there isn’t a lot of resources. We can take a lesson from this in planning for our own future. Start putting money away now for the winter holiday season, or can all of your fruits/vegetables from your garden, alternatively make bigger life plans for your- college? Career change? Savings plan? House buying? Marriage?

Lesson 4: Connect with your Shadow. The shadow season is of course the best time to start or continue connecting with your own shadow. Our shadow selves are the parts of ourselves that we tend to repress. Spend some time on introspection and becoming aware of our own shadows. We have some gorgeous gold sheen obsidian that is all about shadow integration.

Lesson 5: Become balanced. The Autumnal Equinox is soon upon us and night and day become equals if only for a moment. Find ways where your life can become more balanced. Do you need to set boundaries on your work life so you have more rest/spiritual time or vice versa? Do you need to balance your social life against work/family life? This is the ideal time to accomplish those boundary settings. We have some great relaxation tools and also some great motivational ones! I hope these tips help you welcome and ease into the shadow season. We will be talking more about the shadow self in the next two weeks so be sure to check that out!
